Origin and meanning of the word "Art"

When I see an ambiguos word I search in the dictionary its meanning. Dictionary is not enough to understand what is the deep meanning of something, but it helps to understand what concepts are hiden in a sequence of letters that we call "word". And, as Italian I have to do this work each time I write in English.

The word "Art" comes from the Aryan root ar-, and in Sanskrit it means "going to", "to move to, from Latin "artem" (nominative ars),  in the Old English "eart", from French "art".
So, "art" means moviment, and in a figurative sense, making, producing, and then, a skill as a result of learning or practice.

We know the Arts and Crafts Movement, It is an international movement in the decorative and fine arts  flourished in Europe and North America between 1880 and 1910. It's style emerged from the attempt to reform design and decoration in mid 19th century Britain. It was a reaction  against a decline in standards that the reformers associated with machinery and factory production. (Wiki).
The Art&Cratfs Movement continues in the US-based The Arts&Crafts Society.

Why I tell you about Arts and Cratfs Movement? Because I think that Art can not being separated from Craft.
Etymology says that art is an action (to move to), and an action is what we do, not only what we think. Then, there isn't art without a skill that produces something.

But, not all we make is art. As Arts&Crafts Movement teached us, design and decoration are the basic elements to distinguish a mechanical product from an artist product-work.
